The proposal combines retail, public space and brand experience so the market works by day and by night. The strategy focuses on shade, pedestrian flow, vegetation, lighting and rest areas that increase dwell time.
Sector: Retail, public space and commercial real estate
Services: Commercial design, customer experience, placemaking, spatial identity
Brief and objectives
A market does not compete on product alone: it competes on convenience, visibility, experience and what the customer remembers. The brief was an intervention that improves the shopping experience without sacrificing functional clarity or the durability intensive use demands.
- A market that is more visible, more comfortable and easier to navigate.
- Shade, coolness and rest areas that improve comfort.
- Identity reinforced without turning the place into a fragile set.
- Activation through lighting, vegetation and a clearer commercial experience.
Solution
The proposal organises the market as a sequence of protected spaces: more recognisable entrances, shaded walkways, rest points and a common atmosphere that connects stalls, facades and the exterior. Lightweight structures, vegetation, legible paving and warm lighting give a clear identity without excessive gestures. The market is treated as a complete experience: buying, sitting, meeting, returning.
Experience and activation
The design adds layers of comfort that affect use directly: shade in the hottest hours, lighting that extends the life of the space, vegetation as an organiser and seating that turns transit into lingering. Beyond an aesthetic refresh, the project works as a tool for commercial and urban activation.
Result
- A more attractive, contemporary and memorable commercial image.
- Greater comfort for visitors, traders and residents.
- A better connection between the market and the public space around it.
Key points
- Shade and climate comfort as a design decision.
- A customer route that increases dwell time.
- A spatial identity in materials that survive intensive use.
